A regional endemic species of the
Pannonian Basin located mainly in Hungary in sand and loess
steppes between Tisa river and Danube. One isolated location is
known from southern Slovenia and a few others in northern
Serbia. Outside Pannonia this species occurs in three localities
from Romania in the western part of the Valachian Plain.
These localities are, according to
dr. Adrian Oprea:
1. Lipovu, Dolj county,
described by I. Serbanescu (1965) and mentioned again in Doltu M. I., Sanda V. & Popescu A. (1983) -
Caracterizarea ecologica si fitocenotica a florei terenurilor
nisipoase din Romania. Stud. Com., Muz. ati. Nat.
Brukenthal, ser. Stiintele Naturii, 28:
87-151.
2. Moldova Veche island in the
Danube, Caras-Severin
county, described in
Morariu I., Danciu M. & Ularu P. (1969) - Date
noi din flora Portilor de Fier. Stud. cerc. Biol., Ser.
Bot. 21(1): 17-22 + 3 fig.). This location was
checked by Alexandru Badarau in september 2013 and the species was
not found. Interestingly, despite the fact that on the island there
is a great surface of sand dunes, the species was mentioned in the
above cited article as growing not in arenicole grasslands but in
the xeric patches of grasslands with Chrysopogon
gryllus from the monticle in the eastern part of the
island, on rocky and loess substratum.
3. Desa-Nebuna, Dolj
county, to the SSE, near Popii Lake close to the Danube shore
according to Dihoru Gh. & Negrean G. (2009) - Cartea rosie a
plantelor vasculare din Romania. Bucuresti: Edit. Acad. Romane.
Lipovu in the Oltenia Plain, Dolj county, imeadiately to
the east from the village on the upper part of Desnatui river
terrace, 27th and 28th of September 2013. Here the
species does not grow on sands but on loess steppes.
